'House of Cards' production will start in 2018 without Kevin Spacey

House of Cards to resume production for final season without Kevin Spacey

Ted Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer, has confirmed that Netflix will resume production next year on what was one of its flagship shows.

Netflix said on Monday the final season of "House of Cards" will start production in 2018 and will not star Kevin Spacey, who is facing a number of allegations of sexual misconduct.

It will not feature its star, Kevin Spacey, who was sacked by the company following sexual harassment and assault allegations in October.

The final season will also be shorter - with eight episodes instead of the usual 13.

Season six is set to focus on Spacey's co-star Robin Wright's character. Sources at the time told THR that season six was nearly entirely written before Star Trek actor Anthony Rapp went public October 29 with allegations that Spacey made unwanted sexual advances toward him in 1986 - when Spacey was 26 and Rapp was 14. Spacey was 26 at the time of the alleged incident. Production on the first two episodes had already been completed and a table read for episode three was on the schedule.

Many people suspected Spacey would be written off, especially after Netflix announced in early November it has severed ties with the 58-year-old actor. Conveniently enough, the fifth season of the show ended with Wright's character looking into the camera and declaring, "My turn".

The streaming service recently revealed that production had been halted, but now confirm in a new statement that production will start again without Spacey in early 2018. Since then, other men have come forward to accuse Spacey of sexual misconduct.
