The bill passed its third reading with only four members of Parliament in opposition.
The Senate has already passed the bill without amendments and the House of Representatives is expected to do the same later today.
Tim Wilson, a Liberal MP who proposed to his long-term partner Ryan during a speech in parliament earlier this week, said "there is no day that I am more proud to be Australian than today". More than 100 MPs had delivered speeches, many emotional, in the lead-up to the final vote with most in support of changes to the Marriage Act.
Additionally, the passing of the same-sex marriage law will be a strategic political win for Turnbull, who has been strongly opposed by his predecessor Tony Abbott, a staunch supporter of conventional marriage.
Gay rights advocates have celebrated outside Australia's Parliament House in anticipation of same-sex marriage being legalized within hours.
The law is likely to take effect in around a month, after royal assent and other formalities are completed, according to The Washington Times.

"They've effectively ensured a lot of people who would otherwise vote for legislation to allow same sex marriage can no longer vote that way, myself included". Nearly 80 percent of Australia's registered voters took part in the two-month survey.
"This is Australia - fair, diverse and filled with respect".
Just under 5m people voted "no", with conservative politicians using their rejection as a catalyst to push for religious exemptions to be included in the bill.
Many Australians took to Twitter to post a video of their TV screens as the bill was passed - and various videos of LGBT+ Australians reacting to the news cropped up on the platform.
About 12.7 million people participated in the survey, which had a response rate of almost 80% - which is considered very high.
A nonbinding postal survey found that 62 percent of Australian respondents wanted gay marriage to be legal.
