Justice League Box Office Disappointment Leads to DC Films Reorg

Warner Bros to restructure DC Films after Justice League's disappointing box office performance

According to Variety, the big DC shake-up that will be happening after Justice League's box office blunder lead to Warner Bros. not having any immediate plans for the director of 300.

Emmerich, the former head of New Line Cinema, a year ago replaced Greg Silverman to improve the performance of Warner's movie studio. This would put everything under one studio instead of DC remaining in a separate building on the lot. Johns reports to DC President Diane Nelson and works in both television, publishing and consumer products, as well as his work on the films. "We are thrilled that Jon is partnering with Roy and anticipate their company being a valuable source of films for Warner Bros and New Line", Emmerich said in a statement.

On day 20, Justice League sits at a measly $201 million.

Meanwhile, there are now no plans for Zack Snyder to direct another DC movie, though it's possible he could helm one in the future as part of his production deal with Warner Bros.

Justice League might be edging towards $600m at the global box-office, but with Wonder Woman making much more than that on her own, the largely derided Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice nearing $900 million for its entire run, and Marvel's equivalent superhero mashup, The Avengers topping out at $1.5 billion, there is no other way to view the film than a huge failure. However, the latest change is expected to take effect only early next year.

The "Justice League" director will still have a production deal at Warner Bros. and will have executive producer credits on "Wonder Woman 2" and "Aquaman". So while Snyder maintains a production deal with the studio as he develops The Last Photograph, I wouldn't necessarily expect him to return to the DCEU anytime soon. Though the over-$800-million worldwide gross for "Batman v Superman" cushioned the blow for Warner Bros., Variety reported that the studio was concerned by the dark tone of the "Justice League" script and was hoping for something lighter. Berg (Argo, Live by Night) with his connection to Ben Affleck, and Johns-who came up in the industry with geeky fanboy king of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, and successfully launched the successful TV arm of DC Entertainment-would try to bring order to the floundering franchise.

Snyder also directed "Man of Steel" and was executive producer on DC movies "Suicide Squad" and "Wonder Woman".

Though Ben Affleck will play Batman in Flashpoint, the report believes he will not be a part of Matt Reeves' standalone Batman film.
