White House: US 'looks forward to participating' in Olympics in South Korea

Despite White House speculation over Games status local Olympians not worried about Korea tension

"But if she wins, she is not going to the White House".

The U.S. Olympic Committee still plans to bring teams to the Pyeongchang Games in February despite the White House and U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley casting doubt on U.S. participation.

In September, the USOC's head of security, Nicole Deal, sent a letter to members of the US delegation saying, "Despite current political tensions with North Korea, there is no specific information to suggest there are imminent threats to USA citizens or facilities in South Korea". While the dizzying statements sent ripples through the Olympic world on Thursday, Blackmun said he didn't hear from a single athlete or sponsor that was anxious about the United States' participation in the Winter Games or the administration's comments.

Still, Haley said Wednesday she believed President Donald Trump's administration would work to "find out the best way" to make sure the athletes are protected.

She later clarified in a tweet, saying: "The U.S. looks forward to participating in the Winter Olympics in South Korea".

"We'll leave that to the constitutional lawyers", he said. "And certainly that is a ideal opportunity for all of them to go and do something they have worked so hard for".

"Right, our athletes are invited to participate under the neutral flag, but nobody can limit fans in using the national flag, and we always can support our team", the designer told TASS.

But when asked if it's a "done deal" that U.S. athletes will be able to attend the Olympics, Haley said: "There's an open question".

"In Korea we're concerned about the global tensions, but as part of the things we can control we think we're really good", Blackmun said.

Early this week it was announced Russian Federation would be banned from taking part in the Olympics after "systemic manipulation" of anti-doping rules.
