For example, their hit movie, A Christmas Prince, is now streaming, as well as The Nightmare Before Christmas. They know what movies they watch and when they stop watching them and what they watch after that.

Social media clapped back at Netflix Sunday after the online movie streaming company called out 53 people who can't stop watching a sappy Christmas comedy. (Hi, Google, you're looking particularly handsome these days.) While it shouldn't raise any eyebrows that Netflix knows exactly how many times you've rewatched Parks and Rec this year, it is interesting to consider the ramifications of this data being accessible to different groups within the company.

When writer Amanda Bell asked Netflix why they were calling out people for their viewing habits, no matter how unusual, they replied, "I just want to make sure you're okay".

Not good. Not unless you are a moron.

Yesterday, Netflix US tweeted a joke that a lot of people found amusing, but many other didn't for the tweet seemed to breach the privacy of users and their viewing habits.

To the 53 people who've watched A Christmas Prince every day for the past 18 days: Who hurt you?

But the following tweet easily qualifies as the creepiest thing Netflix ever said.

Netflix US wasn't the only service talking about the film.

The intention was humorous, but many of Netflix's followers on Twitter were angry at the frivolous use of customer data.

Even some major companies got in on the Netflix-bashing.

Other data released by the streaming service revealed that Greenleaf, a series about a family and their sprawling megachurch in Memphis, was the most "devoured" show in 2017 - meaning the program had been watched for more than two hours per day.
