Asaduddin Owaisi slams PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi over temple visits

Rahul Gandhi's India

He along with Congress General Secretary in-charge Ashok Gehlot and Gujarat Congress President Bharatsinh Solanki performed puja at the temple. A huge row had erupted during Gandhi's visit to Somnath on November 29 after an image with his and senior party leader Ahmed Patel's names, purportedly from a register meant for non-Hindus, went viral. The newly-elected Congress president said he is confident that his party will form next government in the state.

Briefing reporters about the first meeting of the party's highest decision-making body chaired by Rahul Gandhi, party spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said that members recalled the struggle party had done in the years it had been out of power including between 1977 and 1980 and between 1999 and 2004. "Desperate times call for desperate measures?" tweeted the Congress.

The BJP targeted Rahul over his temple visits and termed it as a political move to woo Hindu votes.

On December 12, Prime Minister Modi and Rahul Gandhi visited temples in Gujarat with the twin objective of seeking blessings and wooing voters.

While campaigning for the Congress in the Gujarat assembly elections, Rahul visited many temples.

Post elections, the Gujarat Congress organised a three-day conclave, to be concluded on Saturday, to discuss the results and other issues, media reported. BJP's vote share in the state increased from 47.9 per cent (2012) to 49.1 per cent.

After getting a brief about the outcome and suggestions of the shivir, the Congress president will speak to party cadre.
