New Year's at Noon: Kids, families ring in 2018 early

The Duluth Public Library held their Noon Years Eve celebration on Saturday. This is the second year the library has hosted the event

To enjoy the balloon drop, parents will have to pay the regular $8 admission, but those who choose to spend a few hours before the balloon drop at the museum will be able to let their kids participate in various activity centers. Many screamed, cheered and shook homemade noisemakers as the countdown ended and balloons and glitter fell the the floor.

The Noon Year's Eve event was not the only New Year's Eve event in Utah County held on Saturday, rather than Sunday.

"Last year, we had like 200 people in our lobby, or 300 people in our lobby", Garcia said.

"Every year we do this Noon Year's Eve for the kids to celebrate New Year's", said convention center General Manager Jessica Corona.

Some of the youngsters calmly toasted the New Year by clinking plastic glasses filled with apple cider, while many others raucously pounced on the fallen balloons to pop as many as possible during what can only be described as a full-on frenzy.

As the kids and families moved around, some stopped to dance to the music or play an impromptu game of tag. She said she was pleasantly surprised with the turnout.

They will also get the chance to vote for the names of the zoo's three new otter pups.

Majka came to the New Year's at Noon event with her 3-year-old son Jimmie.

"Even some adults don't want to have to stay up until midnight and a lot of times kids and adults don't get to do that New Year's celebration together, so this offers an opportunity for that".
