The movement was formed after a deluge of allegations disrupted or ended the careers of powerful male leaders in entertainment and also in big business, politics and the media, sparked by the Harvey Weinstein Scandal.

Reese Witherspoon, Meryl Streep and Natalie Portman are among stars backing a campaign in Hollywood against sexual harassment.

"To every woman employed in agriculture who has had to fend off unwanted sexual advances from her boss, every housekeeper who has tried to escape an assaultive guest, every janitor trapped nightly in a building with a predatory supervisor, every waitress grabbed by a customer and expected to take it with a smile. we stand with you".

Over 300 women who work in film, television, and theater have launched a $13 million legal defense fund dedicated to combating sexual harassment and assault in low-wage workplaces.

They announced the project Monday in a full-page New York Times advertisement, and their goals include fighting non-disclosure agreements that protect sexual abusers and helping women who are victims of sexual misconduct but can not afford to hire lawyers.

Along with helping victims, the campaign calls for more women in positions of leadership and power across industries.

As for Hollywood, it wants "swift and effective change to make the entertainment industry a safe and equitable place for everyone".

A push to reach gender parity in Hollywood studios and talent agencies; and a call for women walking the red carpet at the Golden Globes to wear black as a sign of protest and solidarity.

The fund was announced in an open letter published on Monday as a full-page ad in The New York Times and the Spanish-language newspaper La Opinión.
