Man United's Ashley Young banned for three matches

Ban incoming? Manchester United star spotted elbowing Southampton's Dusan Tadic

"Manchester United's Ashley Young and Swansea City's Kyle Naughton have both been charged with violent conduct following games on Saturday December 30", the FA said in a statement.

Manchester United full-back Ashley Young has been charged with violent conduct by the Football Association following an incident during Saturday's 0-0 draw with Southampton.

The 32-year-old accepted an FA charge after he appeared to elbow Southampton's Dusan Tadic during a Premier League match on Saturday.

Speaking after the game, Tadic said: "He elbowed me and I asked him: 'Why did you do this?'" The incident went unnoticed by match official Craig Pawson and his assistants, but now the player has been handed a retrospective ban. I didn't really understand.

Asked if Young should have been given his marching orders, Tadic had said: "Yes".

He will miss United's trip to Everton on New Year's Day, Friday's FA Cup third-round tie against Derby, and a home league match against Stoke. I can fall down but it was really odd because I didn't expect that from him'.

Young, who joined United from Aston Villa in 2011, returned to the England squad in November after a four-year worldwide absence.

United will also be without Romelu Lukaku for the time being after he was stretchered off in the 14th minute of the draw with Southampton.

"And, knowing Jose as I do, he will be furious when he sees the footage".
