Nikki Haley on Iran: 'We must not be silent'

Haley 'Iranian people are now finding their voice'

"The people of Iran are crying out for freedom", Haley said at a news conference.

North Korea, which regularly threatens to destroy the United States, South Korea and Japan, tested its most powerful intercontinental ballistic missile in November, which it said was capable of delivering a warhead to anywhere in the United States. In 2009, the Green Revolution saw thousands of protesters in Iran taking to the streets to contest the recent reelection of president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

"We are still communicating with people in Iran on Facebook and Twitter and we're constantly updating those two sites in Farsi", said Goldstein.

"It takes great bravery for the Iranian people to use the power of their voice against their government, especially when their government has a long history of murdering its own people who dare to speak the truth", Haley said.

Haley said the United States would not take talks seriously if they did not take steps toward banning North Korea's nuclear weapons.

The United States is withholding $255 million in aid from Pakistan because of its failure to cooperate fully in America's fight against terrorism, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said on Tuesday. "And the people in Iran are able to get into those sites through VPN (virtual private networks)".

At the United Nations on Tuesday, she also praised the courage of Iranian demonstrators and said protests across the country were spontaneous, not driven by outside forces.

However, the secretary of state said last month that the U.S. would be "ready to talk any time North Korea ... and we're ready to have the first meeting without precondition".

According to Haley, US President Donald Trump "doesn't want to give any additional funding until the Palestinians agree to come back to the negotiation table". In her remarks, Haley wasted no time criticizing the regime and siding with the protesters against their oppressors. But Obama's critics say his hesitancy only emboldened the Iranian regime.

"But it's not enough that we speak out", he added.

"North Korea can talk with anyone they want, but the U.S. is not going to recognise it or acknowledge it until they agree to ban the nuclear weapons that they have".

"We regret the reported loss of life, and we hope that further violence will be avoided".
