Apple Aims To Make Developers' Jobs Easier With New Startup Acquisition

Pokemon Go Hits Top of Apple App Store in 2017 Thanks to AR Update

The newly redesigned App Store, introduced with iOS 11 in September, has also been making app and game discovery fun and easy for the over half a billion customers that visit the App Store every week.

In response to the announcement, several Android developers took to Twitter to voice their concerns about a lack of alternatives and the limited window to make the switch to another platform.

Buddybuild is a small Canadian company based in Vancouver that has been around since 2015.

With the acquisition, the startup will be integrated into Xcode, which is Apple's suite of development tools for its platforms, like iOS, watch OS and MacOS, as well as tvOS. Until now, Buddybuild has offered its services to iOS and Android customers.

App Store sales growth may serve as an indicator of iPhone demand, since new owners are more inclined to spend money in the marketplace in the days after they get a new handset. The company will still provide its services to existing customers, and work on building, testing and shipping iOS apps to testers.

Notably, shares of Apple have gained 48.5% in the past one year slightly outperforming the industry's 45.5% rally. "We want to thank all of the creative app developers who have made these great apps and helped to change people's lives".

This acquisition is similar to the move of Apple when it acquired TestFlight in 2014. The noteworthy aspect of this development is how the startup was meant to make the work of developers much easier via testing and improvements. They're both former employees of Amazon. In its almost three years of existence, the startup has managed to raise around $8.8 million, including a $7.6 million Series A led by Kleiner Perkins Caufield back in May of 2016. Many high-profile clients are using Buddybuildm including Mozilla and The New York Times. The startup also plans to discontinue the free starter plans and future app developments from March 1, 2018.
