Passenger Patrick Dodd, told the Chicago Tribune the incident in Wisconsin on Friday (local time) was sparked when the man who said he had a gun started to threaten passengers riding in the back of the bus.

In Kenosha County, the Sheriff's Department there and Wisconsin State Patrol joined in trying to pull the Greyhound over, Schmaling said.

"We dodged a bullet", Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling said during a press conference Saturday.

Eastbound I-94 was closed for several hours and traffic was brought to a standstill as authorities remained on the scene.

The Sheriff alleged Vargas-Rosas threatened investigators after he was arrested.

Schmaling said the bus was not being hijacked; he said Vargas-Rosas did not threaten the bus driver or ever approach him.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office says a man with a gun was reported on the bus.

So far, no weapon has been recovered on the bus. He reportedly made threats, referred to having a gun and acted as though he was going to pull one out of his waistband. Sheriff Schmaling says Vargas-Rosas continued to make threats to kill law enforcement during his transport to jail.
