Starting today we're introducing educational videos in News Feed that help you get information on important privacy topics like how to control what information Facebook uses to show you ads, how to review and delete old posts, and even what it means to delete your account.

"We recognize that people use Facebook to connect, but not everyone wants to share everything with everyone - including with us", Erin Egan, chief privacy officer at Facebook, wrote in a.

The privacy principles, separate from the company's terms and policies, include a commitment to protect user privacy at the outset of product design and help people understand how their data is used.

Last week, Facebook unveiled its new privacy center, which rolled the social network's privacy settings into one location.

"Our apps have always been focused on giving people transparency and control and this gives us a very good foundation to meet all the requirements of the GDPR and to spur us on to continuing investing in products and in educational tools to protect privacy", Sandberg said. "We're rolling out a new privacy centre globally that will put the core privacy settings for Facebook in one place and make it much easier for people to manage their data", said Sandberg in a recent event that took place in Brussels. Coinciding with "Data Privacy Day", Facebook Sunday released a series of data privacy announcements. The new videos will appear in the News Feed in the near future.

"Privacy controls are only powerful if you know how to find and use them", Egan continued.

The new tools had been hinted at by COO Sheryl Sandberg last week and mark a change in attitude at Facebook, which has at times come under fire for how it handles personal information. GDPR intends to increase an internet user's right to be forgotten.

The new privacy center tool will be more comprehensive and unite key privacy settings rather than spreading them across multiple pages. "To do that, we need to build it into the design of the product". The company's announcement was done ahead of the General Data Protection Guidelines (GDPR) implementation in Europe.

This month, Facebook has shared the first two major changes coming to the social media service. He urged stricter regulations on dominant technology companies and pointed to the enforcement actions of the European Union as a model that USA regulators should emulate.
