Nintendo Switch Surpasses 14.86 Million Consoles Sold Since Launch

Nintendo Switch Surpasses 14.86 Million Consoles Sold Since Launch

The Nintendo Switch games console has outsold its predecessor, just 10 months after its launch.

Nintendo reported that Super Mario Odyssey was the best-selling game for the Switch, with global sales of more than 9 million units.

When the Switch was released in spring 2017, there were questions about if Nintendo would be able to survive as a console maker. By hitting back - and capturing the public's imagination - with the Switch, the company has proved them wrong.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sits at 6.7 million sales, while Splatoon 2 has so-far shifted 4.91 million copies.

Specifically, 14.86 million units were sold.

Download sales for Nintendo Switch helped push total download sales up to 43.1 billion yen (87% increase on a year-on-year basis).

The latest update on Minecraft's official site details that the character skins include Master Chief, Banjo, Cole Train, 'Splosion Man, heroes from the Fable series, and more, all ready for their first trip to Nintendo consoles.

Nintendo revealed earlier this month that the Switch had beaten its own record for the fastest-selling gaming console in the United States, shifting close to 5 million units. Switch is expected to comfortably exceed 15 million sales by March 2018, up from the previous estimate of 14 million. However, it's important to remember that not all of that revenue comes from the Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch - a relatively low-powered portable/console hybrid system coming at the same time the PS4 and Xbox One were moving toward more processing power and 4K support- seemed to have a distinct possibility of flopping.

This year is already set to be another big one for Nintendo. The Wii U, by comparison, was released in 2012 and discontinued past year. The company is also slated to launch its Labo cardboard DIY kits to the Switch in April.
