Jammu and Kashmir: Unknown gunmen fire in Srinagar's tertiary hospital

Though a police official on condition of anonymity said that it was a militant attack, well placed sources suggested that that there was no other militant except the prisoner- Naveen Ahmed alias Abu Hanzala, a top operative of Lashkar-e-Taiba.

The personnel, who are critically injured, have been admittted to the hospital. Commenting on the matter, the police said that a carbine rifle of one of the cops is also reported missing. A Pakistani resident, he was kept in Central Jail Srinagar wherefrom a member of three cops led by a head constable drove him for a medical check-up in SMHS. Police indicated that an accomplice of the prisoner, Naveed Jutt, opened fire just outside the hospital.

According to eyewitness accounts, the militants opened fire as soon as Jhutt, along with five other prisoners and the police team, got off the vehicle outside the Out Patient Department of the 70-year-old hospital.
