Josh McDaniels may not leave Patriots for Colts after all

The Eagles defeated the Patriots 35-28 the last time these two teams met in 2015

ProFootballTalk.com's Mike Florio reported Sunday evening that there has been "chatter" that McDaniels may decide to not leave New England for the Colts.

There are many questions surrounding the New England Patriots following their Super Bowl LII loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. If there's skepticism of McDaniels it's that all of his coaching success has come with Bill Belichick, calling plays for Brady.

McDaniels' previous head coaching stint saw him lead the Denver Broncos to an 8-8 season in 2008, before he was sacked in the next campaign with Denver 3-9.

Before the Super Bowl, he was asked about an increased role with the team in 2018 and beyond.

Still, the fact that McDaniels isn't actually backing out of his "wink and nod" agreement with the Colts is great news for Indianapolis, as the remaining coaching candidate pool is severely depleted from what it once was to start the interview process.

Even though Luck missed the entire 2017 season, he is still one of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL. Finding a franchise quarterback in the National Football League is arguably the most hard thing to do. Louis Rams as their offensive coordinator in 2011 before returning for a second stint with the Patriots in the same position in 2012. Don't forget, Andrew Luck is a quarterback who likes to throw the ball deep down the field.

The Colts need a head coach and the Patriots need clarity, and neither side has it officially.

After the game, McDaniels refused to talk about the rumors about the Colts.

In his nine seasons as Patriots offensive coordinator, McDaniels had six top-10 rankings in total offense.

However, Rob Gronkowski, the Patriots' all-world tight end, virtually confirmed McDaniels' pending departure.
