Joaquin Phoenix to play the Joker in upcoming origin movie, reports say

You Were Never Really Here Review

Joaquin Phoenix might be gearing up to play the Joker in an upcoming movie! And with that unlikely idea comes an unlikely casting fantasy in actor Joaquin Phoenix. They report that formal negotiations with the studio aren't yet underway, but that he is definitely on the top of the director's list. However, after a meeting with Phillips, Phoenix is said to have had time to mull the role over and has agreed to sign on. The movie would take place outside the official canon of the DC Extended Universe that began with Man of Steel. The 43-year-old, multiple Oscar-winning actor would be a big get after the rumored first choice of Leonardo DiCaprio didn't come to pass.

What's still most baffling about this project is the involvement of Phillips, who crafts collections of moving images that resemble movies, but are really just trash piles that you watch while contemplating the finality of all existence.

"Phillips" film on the other hand, will dive deeper into the Joker's past and how he became the criminal mastermind fans know and love (to hate).

It's instead to be a prequel, a Joker origin story that will supposedly be a gritty '80s crime film.

It will exist in a separate timeline from the one in DC's pre-established cinematic universe which included Suicide Squad, where Jared Leto plays the Joker. Zack Snyder reportedly courted him to play Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which Phoenix passed on.

When asked about this Joker origin movie, Leto said: "I'm a little confused too, but yeah, there are a couple of things happening in the DC world..."
