Josh Pastner: 'Zero truth' to 'disgusting, bogus' sex assault allegations

Paul Gattone attorney for Ron Bell and Jennifer Pendley speaks after filing a sexual assault lawsuit against Georgia Tech head basketball coach Josh Pastner on Thursday Feb. 8

Georgia Tech coach Josh Pastner has been accused of sexual assault in a lawsuit filed in Arizona, according to Dan Marries of KOLD News 13.

The lawsuit was filed by Ron Bell, a former close friend of Pastner.

The couple's counterclaim was in response to Pastner's suit, in which he accused Bell of wrongfully notifying NCAA investigators past year that he had sexually assaulted Pendley. Tompsett calls Bell's and Pendley's allegations "malicious lies" and seeks to shed light on aspects of the couple's behavior that counters their claims in the lawsuit.

In fact, contrary to the claim she filed today, for two years after Ms. Pendley alleges the first assault occurred, Ms. Pendley continued to proactively and enthusiastically initiate communication and contact with Josh and his wife, visiting their home, giving gifts to their children, attending games, and publicly expressing positive statements about Josh and his character. Then, when talking to the NCAA he reportedly dropped some kind of information about Pastner sexually assaulting Pendley.

Jennifer Pendley is the named plaintiff in the lawsuit, alleging Pastner masturbated in front of her and attempted to force her head toward his penis before threatening her to remain silent. Pastner issued a statement through his lawyer on Thursday denying all claims.

In a November 7 report by CBS Sports, Bell alleged that he had provided Georgia Tech basketball players Josh Okogie and Tadric Jackson with improper benefits by paying for them to fly to his home in Tucson, Arizona, and paying for their meals at a restaurant in Atlanta.

Pastner filed a defamation lawsuit against Bell and Pendley in January, two months after Bell told CBS Sports that he had provided extra benefits to a pair of Georgia Tech players. Bell and Pendley spent several weeks with Pastner's teams in Memphis and Atlanta in 2016.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution normally does not identify purported victims of sexual assault. Thinking the conversation was finished, the court papers said, Bell went into the bathroom for a shower.

Bell began attending games and hanging around Pastner's programs in Memphis and then Georgia Tech. She said she resisted, but Bell could not hear her crying from the bathroom.

Over the next month, court records allege, Pastner sexually harassed Pendley, grabbing her against her will and whispering obscenities to her. The police response was prompted by friends of Ms. Pendley who reported Ms. Pendley told them she was "in fear of her life" and that Mr. Bell "is physically and verbally abusive".
