Amsterdam to London fast trains start in April at €40 per seat

Eurostar to launch Amsterdam service in April

More than 4 million passengers a year fly between London and Amsterdam, making it one of Europe's busiest air routes as the Netherlands grows in popularity as a key business and tourism hub.

Train travel between London and Amsterdam now takes between four hours 30 minutes and five hours, with one change at Brussels-Midi/Zuid station. That trip will take approximately four hours and fo minutes. The return journey will be somewhat longer, because in the in the initial period passengers traveling from Amsterdam or Rotterdam to London will have to connect through Brussels, where passport controls and screenings will be taken out.

"The launch of our service to the Netherlands represents an exciting advance in cross-Channel travel and heralds a new era in worldwide high speed rail", Nicolas Petrovic, Eurostar chief executive, said. The company said that travel to Brussels will now be even faster with the new route too, only taking one hour and 48 minutes, instead of two hours and five minutes.

Eurostar is the passenger train service that runs from London to Paris, Brussels and other destinations in France.

The trains between the United Kingdom and the Netherlands will depart London twice a day, at 8:31 a.m. and 5:31 p.m. Therefore the market is the same size as it was when the London-Paris train launched in 1994 and points out that, since then, the market for travel between London and Paris has more than doubled.

But Eurostar is working on solving the issue, they said: "The UK and Netherlands governments are both working hard to find an agreement that will allow us to check travellers' passports before departure from the Netherlands". Both governments have committed to completing this by the end of 2019.
