Trump tweet on National Football League player's death 'ghoulish and inappropriate'

Trump: 'Disgraceful that a person illegally in our country' killed Colts player in crash

National Football League fans are still reeling from the tragic death of Indianapolis Colt's player Edwin Jackson, and now the suspect allegedly responsible for the fatal vehicle accident that killed him has been charged with multiple felonies.

Curry filed felony charges Wednesday against Orrego-Savala.

The illegal immigrant suspected in the drunk driving death of an Indianapolis Colts player and Uber driver was convicted a year ago under an alias, in prosecutors said Tuesday.

Police say he slammed his Ford F-150 pickup into Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson and Uber driver Jeffrey Monroe as they were standing on the emergency shoulder of Interstate 70 in Indianapolis early Sunday morning.

Police also said that Orrego-Savala was at almost three times the legal blood-alcohol content limit, which is 0.08 percent in Indiana.

Orrego-Savala is a Guatemalan citizen who's in the USA illegally.

Police said after the truck hit them, Orrego-Savala then tried to flee the scene on foot before being arrested.

Orrego-Savala is next scheduled to appear in Marion Superior Court on Wednesday morning for an initial hearing.

Curry criticized Trump and others who cited the case as part of the nation's immigration debate, noting that "two innocent men lost their lives in this awful incident". "I don't know why I am here".

The report noted the 37-year-old construction worker also faces a federal charge of illegal re-entry after previously being deported from the U.S.in 2007 and 2009.

Orrego-Savala had a 2005 conviction for driving under the influence in Redwood City, California.

He faces up to 10 years in prison on that charge, which will be handled after in authorities resolve the Jackson case.

Trump drew added attention to the case on Twitter, calling the highway collision "disgraceful", and prodded Democrats to work with him on illegal immigration and border security.

Orrego-Savala's DUI conviction was in Redwood City, California, and he has numerous other misdemeanor convictions and arrests in California and in, said Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Nicole Alberico. Authorities said Jackson was the passenger of a ride-sharing operator, identified as 54-year-old Jeffrey Monroe of Avon, Indiana. They say he was again living illegally in the U.S. "This is just one of many such preventable tragedies. We are shocked and saddened by this tragedy, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of both men during this hard time".
