Frank Reich Officially Signs Contract With Colts to Become Head Coach

Frank Reich

Reich was with the Colts mostly as an offensive assistant from 2006-11.

Reich was a former Colts' QB coach and was instrumental in the development of Peyton Manning. It's easy to see why the Colts quickly identified Reich as a top candidate.

The Colts seem to be taking some extra precations after they announced they hired Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, only to have him back out hours later.

The Colts were reportedly interested in Seahawks' OC Darrell Bevell and Raiders' QB coach Jake Peetz as their offensive coordinators. McDaniels called Colts general manager Chris Ballard later that evening and reneged on the agreement, saying he chose to stay with New England.

As for Pederson's Eagles, it's easy to say this is the downfall of success: losing their coordinator and quarterbacks coach, John DeFlippo, who took the coordinator vacancy in Minnesota. "ESPN reported earlier he was the fave", he reported. He also has a stellar reputation, and his myriad of life experiences and the people he has worked with make him the ideal fit for us and our fans. "I mean, it's fun to work with the guys we work with and have the players that run those plays".

The other challenge for Reich will involve his coaching staff.

While the numbers are impressive, the fact he helped the team win a Super Bowl after Carson Wentz tore his ACL in December is what stands out. Since retiring as a coach he has spent time on the staff of the Colts, Cardinals and Chargers in addition to working the last two years for the Eagles. Born in Freeport, New York, Reich played baseball, football, and basketball while attending Cedar Crest High School in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. He led the Bills to the largest playoff rally in history in 1992, when Buffalo overcame a 32-point deficit to defeat the Houston Oilers.
