Sea of Thieves Will Have Premium Shop, But No Loot Boxes

Rare Microsoft Studios

If there's a premium shop it may sell loot boxes, some anxious.

The developer behind Pirate booty simulator Sea of Thieves has confirmed that the game will never employ loot crates.

In other words, there will not be any loot boxes.

In a visit to Rare last week, Daily Star Online had the opportunity to see Rare in action ahead of the launch of the game.

In a recent playthrough of Sea of Thieves we were struck by the game's immersive first person perspective, simple controls and unobtrusive UI. Microsoft and Rare provided six different spec buildouts you can find below, which should give you an idea of where your configuration might fall when running the game.

Sea of Thieves isn't the most photorealistic game to be released this year (except for the gorgeous water effects), but playing the game in 4K at 60 FPS will require a high-end Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen processor, 16GB of RAM and an Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 or AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 GPU.

'"For launch, it's about delivering the best gameplay experience possible, being there, reacting, listening, taking feedback and everything else", executive producer Joe Neate stressed. The premium shop will not sell anything that affects player progression or power. Do you plan on getting Sea of Thieves or will you be walking the plank?

Sea of Thieves launches for Xbox One and PC on March 20. "We thought long and hard about what's right for our game experience, and the key thing we think is that it has to add to the fun, social nature of the game".

You can collect weapons and clothing as you progress through the game, and according to Engadget, Rare may introduce microtransactions to allow you to purchase items using real-world money. You can also take the visual fidelity as high as you'd like, as evidenced by the spec sheet for the game provided by the studio. But obviously they won't get hurt, and they will come back. I desperately want us to be able to fire other stuff out of cannons, including monkeys and other animals, just because it's fun, right?
