Apple Bringing Peace To iOS 12 With Performance Boost And Bug Extermination

Watch live news on Apple TV

Apple next iOS update will likely be called iOS 12 and it's codenamed "Peace". If the latest report is anything to consider, Apple is apparently working on a new iPad which will come with inbuilt Face ID.

That is not to say there will not be any new features for iPhone and iPad users to look forward to.

Apple is expected to release a new version of iOS in September. The major responsibility comes on the shoulders of Apple's engineers as they worked on new features-packed upgrades in iOS every year and because of that, some features remained imperfect, which later on created problems in software.

In a world of intense competition, rolling out update after update only to see issues continue to arise has forced Apple back into the drawing room.

"The company is shaking up its development program to focus more on key features and push back others to the following year", says the report. The more interesting addition is group chat, a feature Apple introduced years ago with the Mac video calling app iChat, but removed - and never restored - when it introduced FaceTime for iOS devices. Apple's animated emojis feature was released with the iPhone X a year ago.

According to people familiar with the change, Apple will continue to have an annual release, but engineers will focus on features that will be released over the next two years, allowing them to move out features that aren't ideal yet.

As previously reported, Apple is also planning to allow developers to release apps that work across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. This includes a framework for third parties to develop apps that will work on iOS and macOS devices - part of what was reported on earlier by the outlet's Mark Gurman.

Apple is also expected to add a redesigned version of its in-house stock-tracking app. Apple might also wait on rolling out some new Apple Pencil features, as well as a new toggle in the email app to mute threads.

According to the New York Post, security researchers claim access to iBoot could have huge security implications - even if the data is two years old. iBoot source code could provide jailbreak communities with new ways to hack iOS devices. This includes a feature which would have made it possible to run multiple windows in one app with users being able to click between them like tabs in a web browser.

Bloomberg is also reporting that the expected redesigned home screens for iPhone, iPad and CarPlay, won't be released until 2019.
