London Fashion Week: The Queen Was Sat Next To Anna Wintour

The Queen makes surprise visit to London Fashion Week front row

She acknowledged the British Fashion Council for selecting Quinn as the first victor of the award that will acknowledge new young talent.

Designer Richard Quinn is the first recipient of the Queen's award, which he received after the Tuesday show.

ELLE spoke to the designer right after the show and despite knowing she was going to attend several days ago, Quinn said he couldn't quite believe what had just happened.

According to the Royal Family's Twitter account, the award will be given to a different rising British fashion designer who "shows talent and originality, whilst demonstrating value to the community and/or sustainable policies".

Introducing the Queen, BFC head Caroline Rush praised her style through the ages, saying she had challenged dress codes that had been historically masculine.

The award aims to provide continuing recognition of the cultural and trade role the British design and fashion industry has played throughout the Queen's reign.

"It is a great pleasure to be here at London Fashion Week today", she said from the runway after the show finished.

Even though the Queen may be one of Anna Wintour's most powerful buddies now, don't expect her to remove her sunglasses anytime soon.

The Queen toured showrooms and met designers before presenting the prize.

"From the tweed of the Hebrides to Nottingham lace, and of course Carnaby Street, our fashion industry has been renowned for outstanding craftsmanship for many years, and continues to produce world-class textiles and cutting edge, practical designs", she added.

The new award has come about as a result of a year of consultation between the Queen and her personal advisor, Angela Kelly.

The Queen's appearance at LFW comes a day after the Duchess of Cambridge and the Countess of Wessex hosted a fashion event at Buckingham Palace.

In others, the monarch and the fashion editor appeared to share a laugh.
