Airbnb reveals a new premium, hotel-like service: Airbnb Plus

AirBnB Plus includes homes that have been verified for quality and comfort, after passing a 100 point checklist.

San Francisco-based Airbnb is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year with some changes to its platform.

Airbnb host Stephen Barefoot is a bit wary of the company's growth plans.

Additionally, Chesky unveiled a new Airbnb Plus tier for "beautiful homes from exceptional hosts" that he said would be come up higher in search results. The properties will be inspected and verified by a local photographer sent by the company before they're accepted. It's adding four new property types: vacation home, unique space, B&B and boutique hotels.

Airbnb is also adding new tiers, called Airbnb Plus and Beyond by Airbnb, for travelers who want to stay in more luxurious homes or buy custom-designed trips.

A new program called Airbnb for Family and Airbnb for Work will also launch in an effort to help renters find accommodations for social stays, weddings, honeymoons, group getaways and later this year, dinner parties. "Those are indisputable facts, if you just type in "Hilton", look at their stock, look at Marriott, they're all thriving", he told i in September previous year. You might find several rental units in the same building, or of the same configuration, all by the same host. that's nearly like a kind of faux hotel system, but this will offer an opportunity for Airbnb hosts to differentiate themselves for users that are looking for something more specific.

Additionally, the company is expanding its Superhost program with new and updated benefits, including more exposure, custom URLs for their listings and exclusive pricing on smart home devices, starting with a partnership with Nest to offer Superhosts discounted products.

Airbnb, which first launched in August 2008, has hosted over 300 million guest arrivals in its ten years existence.

Dressed head to toe in black, and greeted with a king's welcome by an adoring crowd of Airbnb hosts, Chesky announced new additions and initiatives the company is rolling out to further promulgate itself as a full-fledged travel experience company-built for everyone.

Airbnb's penetration is staggering: it now has 4.5 million listings, more than four times the number of rooms controlled by Marriott International. With all that inventory, CEO Brian Chesky said that he believes Airbnb has "something for everyone". Part of the service's appeal is that each home has its own amenities, décor and personality although as The New York Times correctly identifies, the individualized approach can also serve as a shortcoming as you're never really quite sure what to expect upon arrival. It starts with 2,000 homes that are now available to book. Homes listed in this tier will have "standardized amenities" like Internet service and bathrooms with amenities like showers, clean toilets, and working sinks that make them more like hotel rooms. The company also is adding other rental categories, including bed-and-breakfast inns and boutique hotels. Those numbers could fall further when new restrictions capping Amsterdam home shares at 30 days go into effect next year. If they are selected, the hosts get design consultation and expert photography, and their properties will get top placement on Airbnb's app.

Despite its focus on Airbnb's future, Thursday's event also echoed Airbnb's flashy November 2016 unveiling of Experiences in Los Angeles.
