USA tourist arrested in Japan after severed head found in apartment

American in Custody After Severed Head Is Found in Japan

During an interrogation by the police, he told them he had abandoned the woman's body, The Japan Times reported.

Eventually, he led investigators to a woman's naked torso in a mountainous area of the Osaka Prefecture, then two arms placed side by side about 600 yards from the torso, then a pair of legs in the neighboring Kyoto Prefecture, the Asahi Shimbun said.

Her family filed a missing persons report with the prefectural police, who discovered that the woman had entered a condo unit for minpaku private lodging services in Higashinari Ward, Osaka, together with a foreigner. The reports said police also found the severed head of a woman inside a suitcase at his lodging in Osaka.

The torso and two arms were uncovered in Shimamoto, and the legs were found in Yamashina.

The man has reportedly denied all the allegations against him. None of the woman's belongings have been found.

Bayraktar is seen leaving and re-entering the apartment with a large bag multiple times throughout the day in the camera footage.

Authorities made a grisly and horrific discovery: A severed head allegedly inside the man's luggage.

The 27-year-old woman was apparently one of several he had met through social networking services (SNS) and brought to the room, police said.

During his stay for about a week from February 12 at the Higashinari lodging, security camera footage showed four or five women entering the premises with a man believed to be the suspect, the sources said. The police have not officially released the name of the suspect, though it has been widely reported in the Japanese news media.

Before she went missing, the woman had posted on Instagram that she was going to "meet Jay", an apparent reference to the American.

Hyogo Prefecture police, where the unnamed missing woman is from, declined to answer questions Monday night. A new warrant is to be served to the American man for disposing of and damaging a body.
