Amazon, fearing competition, won't sell Nest products anymore

Voice shopping sales to reach $40B by 2022: study

After weeks of being unresponsive to Nest, Amazon informed the company that the directive "came from the top", something Nest took to mean that it had been handed down by CEO Jeff Bezos.

Amazon announced its acquisition of Ring last week that a maker of smart home doorbell and in-home cameras.

Amazon's retail team first told Nest that the newest devices will not be sold on the site late a year ago.

In retaliation, Nest chose to pull all of its products from Amazon saying it wanted to sell all of its products together in the same space or none at all.

The prolonged, often anti-consumer war between Amazon and Google has a new chapter.

Digital Trends reported that the Nest team was told at the end of 2017 that Amazon would not be selling their new products including the latest smart thermostat or Nest Cam IQ.

More news: May sets out her Brexit demands

As reacting to the news, Nest will no longer vend any of its products on Amazon after current inventory runs out. In separating itself from Amazon, Nest's reasoning is that the powerful retailer should be dealing its overall product family or nothing at all.

Amazon still does sell many other smart home products from other brands on its site, and may still allow third-party sellers from the marketplace to use its platform for Google products. Google Home and Chromecast were both kicked to the curb to ensure they didn't eat into the sales of Amazon's Fire TV streaming sticks and Echo speakers.

It's now unclear whether consumers will be able to buy Nest's connected gadgets through third-party sellers on Amazon Marketplace.

Nest's view is that they would either like to sell their entire product portfolio, or nothing at all, and hence they won't be restocking products after they're sold out from this point on. So things will probably get more awkward later on, as they will be competing in smart devices and computing platforms as well.

Smart home appliances are a burgeoning industry in the U.S. Amazon and its competitors have invested heavily in developing new products and streamlining existing offerings.
