Roger Stone didn't ask for ex-Trump aide Sam Nunberg's protection

Hand it over The subpoena by Special Counsel Mueller's probe into the Trump campaign and alleged collusion with Russia covers communication with the President and others

Onetime Trump campaign aide Sam Nunberg called into two cable news shows and spoke to multiple newspaper reporters Monday to announce - for reasons unclear - that he would prefer to be arrested than testify on Friday before a grand jury assembled by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

But after a string of interviews in which he denigrated Trump, called the Russian Federation investigation "a witch hunt" and pledged to ignore a subpoena to appear before a grand jury Friday, Nunberg told the Associated Press that he likely would comply.

"I was walking around [Beverly Hills] and an global businessman I know pretty well, swore me to secrecy said 'You can say this on TV".

"I don't think [Carter Page] should've been involved in that campaign", Nunberg told Jake Tapper, referencing a former Trump foreign policy advisor under investigation by the FBI for communication with Russian officials.

"This is so ridiculous. Why do I have to spend 80 hours going over my emails that I've had with Steve Bannon and with Roger Stone?".

Nunberg said Mueller likely has some kind of evidence on Trump of misbehavior, "but I don't know about that for sure".

Here's CNN's Erin Burnett telling former Trump aide Sam Nunberg that she can smell alcohol on his breath.

Nunberg worked for Trump from 2011 to 2015.

He was sacked from the campaign for racist Facebook posts and at times has been at odds with Trump, who sued Nunberg for $10 million, alleging he violated a confidentiality agreement.

The Daily Beast reported that three close friends of Nunberg's anxious that he had been drinking before his television appearances.

He vowed to defy a grand jury subpoena, called Mueller's probe a "witch hunt" and claimed that the special counsel is trying to prove that his longtime friend Stone colluded with Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.

"I can't explain it unless you were in there", he replied.

Update: On Monday evening, Nunberg appeared in person on Ari Melber's MSNBC show, and said that he thought that Mueller's team was interested in Trump's businesses.

Judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano began the segment by calling Mueller's request for Nunberg's emails "intrusive".

"I am going to give a major speech on probably Monday of next week, and we're going to be discussing all of the things that have taken place with the Clintons", then-candidate Trump said.

"I mean I despise Corey, why would I communicate with him?"

"I'm working on organizing it", he said.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders dismissed Nunberg's claim.

"Because the idea that, once again, that Donald Trump colluded with Russian Federation is a joke", Nunberg continued.

Nunberg said Mueller's questioning suggested he was looking into stories about the president and prostitutes when Trump took his Miss Universe pageant to Moscow in 2013. "Here's a guy that Donald Trump hired and fired twice because of what Donald Trump felt was incompetent professional work for Trump". Laughing, he said that "my lawyer is about to dump me right now".

"Flat out say I'm not cooperating", Nunberg said.
