Giants Acquire Alec Ogletree In Trade With Rams

Rams, Chargers ready to sell best seats at new stadium in Inglewood

The Los Angeles Rams have agreed to trade linebacker Alec Ogletree to the New York Giants for two draft picks, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press.

Ogletree has 501 combined tackles over five seasons.

Ogletree signed a four-year extension with the Rams in October.

His departure leaves a significant hole in their linebacker core that should be addressed at some point this offseason through free agency, draft, or trades. He also provided leadership on the defense, both during the Rams' turbulent relocation season from St. Louis and again last season, when they ended their 12-year playoff drought.

The Ogletree trade comes less than a week after the Rams shipped Robert Quinn off to Miami.

Remember, guys like center Mitch Morse, defensive lineman Chris Jones, linebacker Reggie Ragland, cornerback Kendall Fuller and receiver Tyreek Hill will all need new contracts in the next couple years.

Ogletree, 26, recorded 95 tackles, two sacks, a fumble recovery and an interception last season.

The Giants had two fourth-round picks in the upcoming draft, including a compensatory selection.

The new year in the National Football League hasn't even officially gotten underway, and the Los Angeles Rams have already been one of the busiest teams when it comes to all of the moves being made, ranging from acquiring Marcus Peters to trading Robert Quinn to the Miami Dolphins.

The Chiefs could have probably afforded that but it would've made it hard to sign other players in the coming years. He is due a $2 million roster bonus next week.
