House GOP report says no collusion between President Trump and Russian Federation

US President Donald Trump has long denied he colluded with Russia to help him win the 2016 US election

Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee argued that their report will allow authorities to boost defenses against future outside meddling in USA elections, including the midterm election this November.

"It's very clear that there's a lot of information that we should have, particularly as we're leading up to the next election cycle". "I understand they're going to be releasing hundreds of pages of proof and evidence". They say that Vladimir Putin and his allies were simply working to "sow dischord", not in order to boost Trump's prospects.

The intelligence committees both in US Senate and the US House of Representatives were looking into an alleged collusion between Trump's campaign and Moscow, which appears to be corroborated by the unverified dossier.

He has also said the committee had obtained only incomplete and, in some cases, potentially incorrect testimony from a spate of other witnesses, including Donald Trump, Jr., Attorney General Jeff Sessions, former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon, former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, outgoing White House communications director Hope Hicks and Trump associate and Blackwater founder Erik Prince.

Exit quote: "House Republicans have abandoned their oath to support and defend the Constitution and protect the American people", lamented House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

The ranking Democrat on the committee, Adam Schiff, slammed the Republicans for ending the investigation, calling the decision "a tragic milestone for this Congress".

But the news that majority party staffers had already drafted a final report so quickly was likely to stun committee Democrats who expected to be consulted in the process.

Nunes accused Schiff and other Democrats of trying to rewrite history and engage in personal attacks because they have failed to find clear evidence of the Trump campaign colluding with Russians. "We found perhaps some bad judgment, inappropriate meetings". Conaway further opined, "Only Tom Clancy or Vince Flynn or someone else like that could take this series of inadvertent contacts with each other, meetings, whatever, and weave that into some sort of a fiction, page-turner spy thriller".

While the Texas Republican said panel members agreed with conclusion of leading USA intelligence agencies that Russian Federation had interfered with the election - he added that they disagreed "with the narrative that they were trying to help Trump".

The Republican panel members said they are shutting down the committee's yearlong investigation and plan to release their findings in a 150-page report. It will detail Russian cyberattacks on USA institutions during the election and the use of social media to sow discord. Like the president, the GOP-led panel also blamed former President Barack Obama for what it calls a "lackluster" response to the Russian hacking and interference during the campaign.

The House Intelligence Committee's investigation has been mired in partisan bickering almost from the start.

Democrats have criticized Republicans on the committee for shortening the investigation, pointing to multiple contacts between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation and saying they have seen far too few witnesses to make any judgment on collusion.
