Ukraine will not allow Russians to vote at Russian consulates - interior minister

Russia should stop occupation of Crimea, says Poland

Members of Ukrainian national groups were reported to have gathered on a street near the Russian Embassy in the Ukrainian capital.

Acting Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs and spokesperson Heather Nauert condemned a political rally Russian President Vladimir Putin held in Crimea on Wednesday where he claimed Crimea to be a part of Russia.

"Challenging borders by force is contrary to worldwide law, including commitments made by the Russian Federation", the French foreign ministry said in a statement.

Only diplomats will have access to Russian diplomatic institutions in Ukraine during the Russian presidential election on March 18, whereas other individuals and Russian citizens will not be permitted to enter diplomatic institutions, according to a statement by the Ukrainian Interior Ministry due to the Russian presidential election scheduled for March 18, which Interior Minister Arsen Avakov posted on his Facebook page.

Russian authorities have organized four polling stations in diplomatic missions located in Ukraine, namely in Kiev, Kharkiv, Lviv, and Odessa.

Ukraine has deemed the decision "illegal" prompting the ban on Russians from voting in Ukraine.

"A note was sent to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry demanding that our diplomatic mission and consulates general be allowed to organize and conduct the elections".

The European Union has supported the territorial integrity of Ukraine, once again reminding Russian Federation of the illegality of the annexation of Crimea and violations of global law and human rights in the occupied peninsula.

In this regard, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry asks diplomats and citizens of Russian Federation to obey the lawful requirements of Ukraine and not to provoke the situation, observe the order and laws of Ukraine. Nauert blasted the 2014 referendum in Crimea as to whether the region should join Russian Federation. Russia said the vote repaired a historical wrong after the historically Russian region was handed over to Ukraine 60 years ago.
