'Black Panther' The US's Highest Grossing Superhero Film Of All Time

That figure passes "The Avengers", which brought in $623.4 million in 2012.

While Black Panther's haul is impressive, its five week run at number one at the box office is set to come to an end, with Pacific Rim Uprising expected to finish first this weekend with $25 million, Variety reports.

This position is not adjusted for inflation, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which also announced that Black Panther is the sixth highest-grossing movie of any kind domestically. Ryan Coogler's Marvel film is about to reach another milestone when it surpasses The Avengers' North American gross to become the highest-grossing superhero movie in the U.S. But there's little chance of the current estimate falling by the $7 million it would take to leave Marvel's latest in second place for one more day.

Marvel's Black Panther has been exceeding expectations since its February 16th release and now another milestone has been reached.

Black Panther will return in Avengers Infinity War, released in United Kingdom cinemas on April 26, 2018.

It's been over a month since it hit the theaters, but it hasn't fallen far from the top spot at the box office. After this weekend, Black Panther will sit in fifth place on the list, behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936.6 million), Avatar ($760.5 million), Titanic ($659.4 million), and Jurassic World ($652.3 million).

The past few weeks since the box office debut of Black Panther have been nothing but the accomplished prelude to an impeccable peak.

By extension, Infinity War only benefits from its proximity to Black Panther's release. Avengers: Infinity War opens April 27, followed by Ant-Man and the Wasp July 6. Even putting aside the far-reaching cultural impact of its majority-black cast and thematically relevant storyline, its critical and commercial success overall represents a high point for the MCU.
