England fans arrested in Amsterdam

BOLTON V READING

A legion of England fans were arrested after a video has surfaced of at least 25 of them launching booze and plastic cups at a group of women in a boat, following by one of them diving into the Amsterdam canal.

Sky Sports reported that nearly 30 fans had been held behind bars overnight for drunken behavior in the Netherlands' capital as the Three Lions prepare to take on Ronald Koeman's Oranje side at the Amsterdam Arena.

Dutch media showed footage of England fans chanting in Amsterdam's Red Light District and police moving in to disperse them.

Jesse Lingard's first worldwide goal secured the Three Lions a fully-deserved 1-0 win in Friday's World Cup warm-up friendly, but on-field success came with the cloud of off-field issues in Amsterdam.

During his pre-match press conference, England manager Gareth Southgate had urged England fans to behave and respect their opponents.

Officers declared that Riot police have arrested 60 people in the red light region.

But his words were ignored by some of the more than 5,000 away supporters inside the ground, who jeered the Dutch national anthem before kick-off instead.

"I think it's important that our fans come and enjoy the game, that they support us in the right way", Southgate said on Thursday evening.

THE FA have condemned England fans who ran riot in Amsterdam and have promised to sanction members responsible for disorder.

The trouble in Amsterdam comes a year after unsavoury scenes marred England's friendly against Germany in Dortmund.

A total of 27 members were suspended for their behaviour in Dortmund.

It was England's last scheduled away match before they travel to Russian Federation for this year's World Cup, with a well-deserved win against a Dutch side who will be one of the major absentees from the tournament.

"It's like they want England to push them back to make us look bad, " he said.

'They attacked us for no reason. "We had been in there several hours with no trouble at all".
