About 200 people gathered outside the Juneau offices of Sens. She also soke against calls to put more guns in schools as a defense against ht enext possible school shooter. The youths led the rally, but alongside them were teachers who said they witness each day how fear and violence puncture their students' lives. Deanna's cerebral palsy requires her to be in a wheelchair much of the time.

"They know this is going to be a long fight". "So before it happens to us, we want to be able to say that we changed it".

Ben Jaeger, a junior at Roosevelt High School and a coordinator for Students Demand Action, speaks with Black Lives Matter St. Paul leader Todd Gramenz during a planning meeting.

I was hopeful that Parkland would spark people to take action, but I also knew the road ahead would be hard.

"As we were telling him not to look at them, they shot the auto up while we were in the vehicle", student Shareef Peoples said. That event purposely finishes in the hometown of U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and is meant to continue pressure for gun reform legislation.

U.S. politicians shouldn't be surprised to see young people taking to the streets about gun violence, a teacher says.

As a family, the Burnells have been involved in social justice movements and attended the Women's March together past year.

"Those students are never going to forget what they went through", said de Vicq. Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson and Muscogee County Sheriff Donna Tompkins urged students and families to vote and push for common-sense gun reform.

Marchers rallied together to express the need to prevent more school shootings like the tragedies at Sandy Hook, Columbine, and most recently, Marjory Stoneman-Douglas.

Megan Bonner, 16, survived the massacre at Stoneman Douglas and spoke on a stage in Central Park.

Keeping students safe here is less about what happens at school and more about what's happening off campus.

"I came today because children shouldn't be afraid to go to school", Kayla Grant, a student at the Balsillie School of International Affairs, told the crowd.

"Do not be silenced", she said.

Carrying signs with slogans such as "If they choose guns over our kids, vote them out", protesters in Washington jammed Pennsylvania Avenue. "For instance, he told my friend that he was excited to gut her like a fish and play with her dead body".

Crimes involving guns in Canada rose 30 per cent from 2013 to 2016, she said, with a 66 per cent increase in gun homicides in the same period.

Steve Auerbach, a pediatrician, came to the rally after years spent seeing the affects of gunshots up close. Every single person in this country is just as vulnerable to gun violence as the next. "As a pediatrician and a father, I find it appalling, the ease of access to guns".
