Former National Football League Cheerleader files discriminatory complaint against New Orleans Saints

Davis says the Saints force cheerleaders to make their Instagram accounts private and insist they must block all social media accounts linked to National Football League players. She has now filed a complaint against the Saints franchise through the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, a federal agency that helps enforce civil rights laws. Cheerleaders were also told to block players from following them, but players were not told to block cheerleaders from following them, according to The New York Times.

But NFL players have no limit on who can follow them on social media and aren't punished for reaching out to the cheerleaders.

The Saints also alleged Davis violated another rule by attending a party also attended by Saints players.

The cheerleader was sacked in January just four days after sharing a photo of herself in a one-piece outfit to her private Instagram page.

"If the cheerleaders can't contact the players, then the players shouldn't be able to contact the cheerleaders", said Sara Blackwell, Davis's lawyer. In regards to the later, if a cheerleader arrives at a restaurant to find a player already there, she's the one who has to leave. If anything the football players should have the same rules, or at least they should be the ones with strict regulation so their predatory behavior is regulated.

'For now, it is sufficient to say that Ms Davis was not subjected to discrimination because of her gender'.

"The New Orleans Saints is an equal opportunity employer, and it denies that Ms. Davis was discriminated against because she is female", attorney Gregory Rochelle said in an email. "The antiquated stereotype of women needing to hide for their own protection is not permitted in America and certainly not in the workplace". "The Saints will defend these allegations in due course, and the Organization is confident that its policies and workplace rules will withstand legal scrutiny". Always had to double check for Instagram posts, we were always checking on each other, you know, 'maybe don't post that.

Davis, 22, is a former New Orleans Saints cheerleader and current college student from Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Buffalo Bills cheerleaders, before the squad disbanded in the face of a wage lawsuit, said they were told to do jumping jacks in tryouts to see if their flesh jiggled and had to attend a golf tournament for sponsors in which wealthy men paid cash to watch bikini-clad cheerleaders do back flips. She has started a movement called #leveltheplayingfield - one that treats all members of the team equally.

"We're hoping to just make a change and advocate for equality in the treatment of women in sports", Blackwell says.

"We're stifled by these rules", she told "Today".
