Waymo Orders Up to 20000 Jaguar SUVs for Driverless Fleet

Waymo's class-leading self-driving tech uses LIDAR a system of lasers and sensors to see the world around

Autonomous auto company Waymo is about to gain another 20,000 electric cars to its fleet thanks to a new partnership with Jaguar.

Jaguar Land Rover has struck a deal to supply tens of thousands of electric vehicles to Google in a huge step into the market for self-driving vehicles.

Jaguar and Waymo have announced a new partnership which will bring the I-Pace into the self-driving technology company's fleet. The company has announced that the autonomous taxi service will soon be available to the general public in the service area.

It's that which has helped fast-track the Waymo I-PACE into testing later this year, of course.

Waymo, the former self-driving vehicle unit of Alphabet Inc.

More news: Argentina boss Jorge Sampaoli

As Uber Technologies Inc. reels from a fatal crash involving one of its autonomous vehicles, rival Waymo is moving ahead, buying as many as 20,000 Jaguar vehicles for its robot fleet. The vehicles will be used for ridesharing. The I-Pace is the latest offering, following the now-defunct Firefly prototype, the outgoing Lexus RX, the Chrysler Pacifica minivan, and the self-driving semi-truck.

Real-world testing is most important to Silicon Valley companies, because it allows them to constantly test and develop their software using a process called machine learning.

This made MI the sixth state to allow Waymo to test its self-driving software on public roads. The minivans presumably offer everyday ride-hailing services while the Jaguars offer a more luxurious travel experience. On public roads, each vehicle will have a "highly-trained" driver inside. One of Uber's test cars hit and killed a 49-year-old woman walking a bicycle across a street in Tempe, Ariz. Its size makes it ideal for city driving. In our view, it's the world's longest ongoing driving test. AZCentral reports the woman was homeless and died from her injuries at a nearby hospital.

A week after the incident, Uber suspended all of its autonomous vehicle testing operations.

"What is clear is that this has the potential to severely impact public perceptions of autonomous technology, and should be handled with utmost prudence by regulators, authorities, and the industry alike". It is all-new from the ground up and is a no compromise, desirable and practical electric performance auto.
