President Trump Makes a Statement on DACA

Donald Trump's tweets come amid tense negotiations over NAFTA between his administration and that of Mexican President

"Congress must immediately pass Border Legislation, use Nuclear Option if necessary, to stop the massive inflow of Drugs and People".

But starting on Sunday morning, Trump unleashed a flurry of tweets about the caravans - and seemed to conflate the group with DACA. "This is a crisis of his own creation", Democratic Senator Dick Durbin said in a post on Twitter.

The proposals appear the same as those included on a White House wish list on immigration that was released in October.

In the past, Trump had said he was open to a deal with congressional Democrats in which they would support funding for the border wall in exchange for protection for the Dreamers.

Congress can not pass any legislation immediately as lawmakers are on their second week of a spring recess, but taking a tough stance on immigration appeals to Trump's conservative base. Congress also put restrictions on the types of barriers that can be built.

On Monday, Mr. Trump tweeted that "Mexico has the absolute power not to let these large "Caravans" of people enter their country". They must stop the big drug and people flows, or I will stop their cash cow, NAFTA. But Mexico has got to help us at the border.

Trump also backed away from efforts to find a legislative solution to an Obama-era program called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals for immigrants in the country illegally who came to the United States as children.

It was not immediately clear what Trump was referring to when he said people are coming to take advantage of the program.

Superville says the Department of Homeland Security is renewing work permits for existing DACA recipients, though the future is uncertain for this group of immigrants. The scheme is, however, now closed to new entrants.

Trump did not explain what he meant when questioned by reporters as he entered the Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea with the first lady and his daughter Tiffany. Border Patrol Agents (and ICE) are GREAT, but the weak Dem laws don't allow them to do their job. The Democrats blew it.

It refers to the practice of releasing immigrants apprehended at or near the border, expecting them to appear at a later date before a US immigration judge.

Under current immigration laws, these migrants can cross the border illegally, get detained, claim asylum, and be released into the United States with a pending court date. "Can't happen that way anymore".

He threatened to abrogate NAFTA, the US-Mexico-Canada free trade pact, and demanded Congress pass tougher immigration legislation and support his plan for a wall along the Mexican frontier.

"Border Patrol Agents are not allowed to properly do their job at the Border because of ridiculous liberal (Democrat) laws like Catch & Release", Trump wrote.

About 1,100 migrants, many from Honduras, have been marching in a caravan along roadsides and train tracks in the southern Mexico state of Oaxaca.

President Donald Trump declared as "dead" on Monday a program that protects immigrants brought to the United States illegally as children and pressed Congress to "immediately" pass legislation to secure the USA border with Mexico.

Judd said the immigrants seeking asylum would "create havoc and chaos" while in the USA awaiting hearings on their refugee status. Under the president's orders, renewal applications for people who already benefitted from the program needed to have been turned in by October 5, 2017.

A group called Pueblo Sin Frontera, or People Without Borders, organized the mass movement through Mexico as a way of helping Central American migrants avoid criminal gangs and harassment by authorities as they trek to the United States border.

Trump is now calling on Congress to invoke the "nuclear option", which would allow the Senate to pass immigration legislation with 50 votes, instead of the 60 votes that are needed today.

"A true leader preserves & offers hope, doesn't take hope from innocent children who call America home".

In the first year of Trump's presidency, Republicans repeatedly stepped on the proverbial rake in their attempts to repeal and replace President Barack Obama's signature law, the Affordable Care Act.
