When it launches, ESPN+ will be one of three new sports streaming services to hit the market this year.

It will feature live sports, original content and a library of on-demand programming.

- College: ESPN+ will offer "thousands" of live sporting events events across almost two dozen conferences including the Horizon and Mac in sports such as football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, track & field, gymnastics, swimming & diving, lacrosse, wrestling, volleyball, golf and more.

Michael Paull, the president of BAMTECH Media, said, "ESPN+ will connect fans directly to sports they love wherever and whenever they want".

On Monday, ESPN launched ESPN+, a new subscription service that the company is trying. And for those with no interest in sports but who are invested in Disney's upcoming streaming service, ESPN+ will be an important technological test case. Customers can access it either through the ESPN app or This won't be a huge concern for niche sports fans but for the average viewer that's mostly into mainstream sports, the subscription service likely won't be of much interest.

At launch, ESPN+ will offer a live Major League Baseball game every day during the regular season, amounting to more than 180 games. The on-demand library could refer to classic sporting games, documentaries, or a list of selected ESPN original programming. Come the 2018-19 NHL season, the entire NHL.TV out-of-market package will also be offered, though pricing for that has not been confirmed yet.

It's a move that cable networks like CBS, ABC, NBC, The CW and HBO have already made and others - like Disney-owned ESPN have announced but not yet launched.

While the full line-up of sports content is yet to be confirmed, some of what will be on ESPN+ is being announced today.

Users do not need a cable subscription to subscribe to ESPN+. TNT owns a majority of National Basketball Association games. Fans of Olympic sports will also get hundreds of wrestling, swimming and diving, gymnastics, and ice hockey events from a variety of conference partners nationwide exclusively on ESPN+. Finally, ESPN+ will offer coverage from 31 PGA Tour events, hundreds of matches from Grand Slam tennis tournaments, and hundreds of rugby and cricket matches. Finally, there'll be worldwide rugby and cricket.
