President Donald Trump is taking shots at Democratic Sen.

Two Republicans competing in the senate primary - Rep. Evan Jenkins and State Attorney General Patrick Morrisey - attended the event, sitting on either side of the president.

But, at various points, Trump veered off course to address issues such as immigration, trade, energy policy and the race for U.S. Senator Joe Manchin's seat.

"Remember my opening remarks at Trump Tower when I opened?"

The Pentagon said officials had not yet determined how many troops would be deployed to support border security operations.

"I voted for President Trump and I think he's going to do a very great job for the whole country, not just West Virginia, for everyone", supporter Barbara Michelson added.

In his own remarks, the President highlighted the tax legislation, but spent time talking about some of the other policies he's pursuing to boost West Virginia's economy.

"I used the word 'rape.' And yesterday it came out where, this journey coming up, women are raped at levels that nobody has ever seen before", he said.

Among them: "What will the 200,000 West Virginians do when they lose health care coverage".

To be sure, Trump praised his tax cut plan, especially during a question-and-answer session with officials gathered in White Sulphur Springs.

Trump has seized on news reports that the migrant group was traveling toward the U.S. Organizers of the migrant group said they never meant to reach the U.S. border.

He repeated his unfounded and unsubstantiated claim that "millions and millions of people" voted illegally in 2016.

.

"You're going to have a chance to get a senator that's going to vote for our program", he said. "That's going to help you in so many different ways".

Nielsen says she'll be speaking again Thursday with California Gov.

As he has done before, Trump conjured images of violence and suffering when he described the perils of illegal immigration, though statistics show that immigrants commit crimes at a lower rate than citizens.
