Juventus' Gianluigi Buffon only human, reaction understandable - Massimiliano Allegri

Football: Real Madrid and Bayern Munich advance to Champions League semi-finals

Juventus' Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon (R) reacts next to Real Madrid's Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo during the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg football match between Real Madrid CF and Juventus FC at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid on April 11, 2018.

Match-winner Ronaldo defended the penalty decision by Oliver and had a dig at Juve claiming they were fouling him all game.

Gianluigi Buffon of Juventus argues with referee Michael Oliver after conceding a stoppage time penalty in their Champions League quarterfinal defeat.

The 33-year-old scored a dubious late penalty after Mehdi Benatia was judged to have fouled Lucas Vazquez in the box.

"Ramos said the penalty was "claro" [clear] and I told him: "Not so "claro", let's say grey".

"I feel bad for the lads, who did well in Turin for 60 minutes and didn't score the goals they did tonight".

"This referee has no heart, he has a garbage bag instead of a heart" Buffon told Italian channel Mediaset Premium after the second leg tie which his team had won 3-1.

"It's normal, it was the last minute, but it was a penalty", he said. I don't know if it was his last game.

"You can not ruin the dreams of a team".

"Clearly you can not have a heart in your chest, but a garbage bin".

Juventus' chairman Andrea Agnelli called for VAR to be introduced to the Champions League after his side's exit from the tournament.

The result, however, meant Sevilla, in the last eight of the European Cup for the first time since their only previous appearance at this stage 60 years ago, still managed to snap Heynckes' 12-game record winning run in the competition.

Although in the end, Buffon commended Real as the better team to win, "It disappointed me to leave the boys with 10 men, but I said objectively Real Madrid deserved the victory, we shake their hands and move on".

"It's a shame it ends like this, " Buffon said in comments translated by Spanish media. All that we can take from it is what we showed on the field, where we played a great game and always believed.

The match looked set for extra time, after a Mandzukic brace and Matuidi goal restored parity, however, a last-minute penalty goal from Ronaldo secured progress for Madrid.
