3 injured in Pleasantview Elementary student knife attack

Watkins says he believes the injuries aren't life-threatening, and the students were taken to the hospital by their parents.

A second-grader in a Minnesota elementary school attacked classmates with a knife on Monday morning.

By the time officers arrived, Beise said, the boy was in an office with a counsellor and the three injured students were being treated by the school nurse.

Beise said the boy was released to his parents.

The alleged attacker was released to his parents after police interviewed him.

"I don't think he had an intended target when he came to school with a knife", Sauk Rapids Police Chief Chief Perry Beise tells WCCO.

The incident took place before school started. The incident lasted approximately 5 minutes and resulted in three students being injured and the aggressor was contained in the office. The case will be forwarded to the county prosecutor's office. Current and former students joined together on April 15 at Morgan's Wonderland in San Antonio to recognize the school's eight years of specialized service to children with autism.

The injured students suffered superficial wounds that required stitches, according to KARE in Minnesota. The weapon was a kitchen knife the boy brought to school.

Ambulances as well as armed police were seen at the school, local media sn.dk reports. The other two are Pleasantview Elementary students. In December 2012, Adam Lanza, 20, shot his mother to death at their Newtown, Connecticut, home before killing 20 first-graders and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The school has just under 800 students. The chief says he doesn't know if the boy had been bullied or had mental health issues. Please know in situations like this the District's discipline policy is applied and aggressive students are not allowed in the building (s).
