President Trump holds joint news conference with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe

While South Korea is not part of the TPP, the tweet came after Trump met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

In between, Trump and Abe enjoyed a almost five-hour round of golf at the nearby Trump International Golf Club.

"If we can get along with China, if we can get along with Russian Federation and if we can get along with Japan, that's a good thing", said Trump. Trump's White House claimed that Abe's stay at Mar-a-Lago was a "gift", one that ethics lawyer Norm Eisen called a "free global infomercial" for the club. "I think it's better for our country, I think it's better for our workers, and I much would prefer a bilateral deal, a deal directly with Japan". Japan has warned that Kim may simply be trying to buy time and has raised concerns that the USA might not press Kim to abandon his short- and medium-range missiles, which pose an immediate threat to Japan, as they discuss the country's nuclear weapons program.

Trump and Abe also appeared to agree to disagree on the issue of steel and aluminum imports.

Chris Kreuger, an analyst at Cowen Washington Research Group, said the head-spinning changes from Trump represent the new normal. Japan has raised concerns that the US might press Kim only on long-range missiles that could hit the mainland United States - and not on the short- and medium-range missiles that pose an immediate threat to Japan - as they discuss North Korea's nuclear weapons program. Important stuff to be discussed - North Korea, trade.

This story was written by the Associated Press. Trump confirmed the meeting in a tweet Wednesday, saying "a good relationship was formed" heading into his anticipated summit with Kim. Trump pulled the US out of it of days after his inauguration but has recently said he might be open to re-joining. The meeting will be the third inter-Korean summit since the Koreas' 1945 division. "A total con job, playing the Fake News Media for Fools (but they know it)!" he wrote, lashing out at porn star Stormy Daniels who alleges she slept with Trump before he was President and who released a composite sketch of a man she says threatened her in 2011.

"But that goes for other countries too", he said, vowing to "weed" the deficit down.

"I like always remaining flexible, and we'll remain flexible here", he said.

Abe's official visit began Tuesday afternoon as an honor cordon of uniformed service members lined the palm-fringed drive to the club.

Also on the docket will most likely be intense discussions about Trump's recently imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum.

During the 40-minute tour, the first lady and Akie Abe also got acquainted with Flagler's private vehicle, called Railcar No. 91, and wicker wheelchairs that the wealthy used to get around Palm Beach in the early 1900s. Trump and Abe will work through the tensions in the face of stress and strife.

The President did drip out a couple of intriguing details, telling reporters that preparatory diplomacy was under way at "extremely high levels" with the North Koreans - a comment that sparked speculation that he had spoken personally to Kim but later was revealed to be a reference to Pompeo's trip.

"We will I believe at the end of a very short period of time be able to do certain things".

He also is expected to ask Trump to raise with Kim the issue of Japanese abducted by North Korea in the 1970s and 1980s. Japan has demanded further investigation. It was bequeathed to the USA government by Marjorie Post 50 years after it was constructed.
