American comedian Bill Cosby found guilty of drugging, molesting woman

Bill Cosby's trial on three counts of aggravated indecent assault is now in the hands of the 12-person jury. Jurors received the case Wednesday shortly after 11 a.m

The verdict came a year after Cosby's previous trial ended in a mistrial, as a different panel of jurors said they were deadlocked and could not unanimously agree on a verdict.

"We are so happy that finally we can say, women are believed, and not only on #MeToo, but in a court of law", Allred told reporters.

The disgraced comedian, 80, initially showed no emotion and looked down at the table in front of him as the verdicts were read - which prompted some of his victims in the gallery to burst into tears.

Defense attorney Kathleen Bliss chastised Constand for "cavorting around with a married man old enough to be her grandfather". Jurors deliberated for 14 hours before reaching a verdict, the AP reports.

Judge Steven O'Neill ruled Cosby could remain out of jail on $1 million bail pending sentencing at a later date, as long as he surrendered his passport and remained at home.

Cosby's new defense team, led by Mesereau, the celebrity attorney who won an acquittal for Michael Jackson on child-molestation charges, launched a highly aggressive attack on Constand, calling her a "con artist" and "pathological liar" who framed Cosby to get rich. They called five other women to testify against Cosby, all who claimed that they were assaulted by the former TV star.

"It is a victory for all sexual assault survivors", Cosby accuser Lili Bernard said.

Cosby's defense team argued that their interaction was consensual.

They also heard Cosby admitting he had obtained seven prescriptions of Quaaludes, a now banned 1970s party drug, from a Los Angeles doctor for back pain with a view to having sex with other women.

The jury's decision comes less than a year after a different jury could not come to a decision. "Now, we really know today who was really behind that act, who the real Bill Cosby was".

No criminal charges were brought at the time of Constand's assault in 2004, and after she settled her civil lawsuit the next year in exchange for her silence, that's where it would have likely stayed.

Jurors eventually called it quits for the night with no verdict, wrapping up their first day of deliberations into whether the comedian drugged and molested Constand on a couch in his Cheltenham, Pa., home in January 2004. "I feel like I'm dreaming". It was revealed that Constand received $3,4 million from Cosby after the two settled out of court.

Unlike a year ago, when Cosby's previous attorneys attempted to cast the Cosby-Constand relationship as romantic, they categorized her this time around as a gold-digger, pointing to the $3.4 million settlement she received from Cosby.

At the retrial, five other Cosby accusers testified as "prior bad acts" witnesses and said that Cosby had drugged and assaulted them decades ago.
