Yemen rebels: 8 missiles fired at Saudi targets

Yemeni Shiite rebels fired ballistic missiles in Saudi Arabia

A Saudi-led coalition air strike on Yemen's city of Sanaa killed two leaders of the armed Houthi group, Saudi state TV Ekhbariya said early on Saturday.

As a result of air strikes killed two leaders of the Houthi rebels continued.

The Saudi-led alliance entered the war with an air campaign after the rebels advanced on the temporary seat of the government in Aden.

Houthi rebel leader Abdul-Malek al-Houthi vowed to avenge al-Samad's death.

The Lebanese al-Mayadeen television channel reported a Saudi strike near the funeral ceremony but there were no immediate reports of possible casualties.

Al-Arabiya said the strike hit a building belonging to Yemen's Interior Ministry.

Thousands of Yemenis attended a funeral in the Houthi-run capital Sanaa on Saturday for Saleh al-Samad, a top Houthi official killed in a Saudi-led coalition airstrike last week.

The Houthis confirmed the airstrike but did not give more details.

It also came as newly-appointed US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was scheduled to land in Riyadh for meetings including talks on the Yemen conflict.

Yemen has been embroiled in a civil war since March 2015, a conflict that has created the world's worst humanitarian crisis. Four of the missiles were intercepted, the Saudi Defence Ministry told Saudi-owned Al Arabiya TV.

Former Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh was killed in Sanaa after days of intense fighting between Houthi rebels and his loyalist forces on December 4 a year ago.

The attacks came as newly appointed US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was scheduled to arrive in Riyadh for talks that are expected to include discussion of the conflict in Yemen, in which almost 10,000 people have been killed since the Saudi-led alliance became involved.

The blockade has since been partially lifted, but access remains limited and the impoverished country stands on the brink of starvation.

As the chairman of Yemen's Supreme Political Council, he was the second most wanted figure by the Saudi-led coalition.
