Ashley Judd files lawsuit against Harvey Weinstein

Asley Judd on sexual harassment

Harvey Weinstein is lashing back after Ashley Judd announced that she has filed a lawsuit for attempting to ruin her career. "I lost money. I lost status and prestige and power in my career as a direct result of having been sexually harassed and rebuffing the sexual harassment", Judd told ABC News today.

Speaking with the now-Pulitzer Prize winning team at the New York Times, Judd described an incident in the '90s where Weinstein asked to massage him in a hotel room and pressured her to watch him shower during a meeting.

"With those baseless smears, Weinstein succeeded in blacklisting Ms. Judd and destroying her ability to work on what became a multi-billion-dollar franchise with 17 Academy Award wins and many more nominations".

The 50-year-old actress - who was one of the first women to publicly accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment - read an open letter during an event in NY hosted by the Tribeca Film Festival and the Time's Up movement, which was promoting equality in the workplace.

The director said he did not know at the time why Weinstein opposed hiring her.

Judd was the first actress to be named on the record with her account of Weinstein's widely alleged predation over the decades. "My career opportunities, after having been defamed by Harvey Weinstein, were significantly diminished". She told ABC News that she was up for a role in the film and then "radio silence".

"The actual facts will show that Mr. Weinstein was widely known for having fought for Ms. Judd as his first choice for the lead role in Good Will Hunting and, in fact, arranged for Ms. Judd to fly to NY to be considered for the role. This was probably in 1998", Jackson told the site, referring to Judd and Mira Sorvino.

Through a spokesperson, Weinstein, who co-founded Miramax and the Weinstein Company, has repeatedly denied "any allegations of non-consensual sex". "It was a special time to be invited into their offices".

"Mr. Weinstein has further confirmed that there were never any acts of retaliation against any women for refusing his advances". "Mr. Weinstein has begun counseling, has listened to the community and is pursuing a better path. Mr. Weinstein is hoping that, if he makes enough progress, he will be given a second chance".
