Trump says Singapore among possible sites for meeting with Kim Jong Un

The appointment of former US ambassador to the UN John Bolton's appointment as White House national security adviser was not a surprise but it was still felt as a rude shock by many foreign policy professionals and commentators

But Trump said the Southeast Asian city state of Singapore was also in the running to host what few would have predicted when nuclear tensions were soaring past year - the first face-to-face meeting between the leaders of the United States and North Korea.

Although Trump has previously ridiculed both Rodman and Kim Jong Un, the USA president's most recent comments suggest he wants to help lead a proposed nuclear meeting.

Mr Trump is preparing for his own summit with Kim, which he said would take place in the next three to four weeks.

During their historic meeting, the two leaders hugged and vowed to work towards "complete denuclearisation" of the Korean peninsular and a peace treaty. Geneva, Mongolia and Singapore were some of the third-party options that his team suggested, reported The Washington Post.

The idea of meeting at the DMZ was not a complete surprise to aides, since Trump has been talking about it all weekend and raised it in his Sunday phone call with Moon, a senior USA official told CNN. "You're actually there. Where if things work out, there's a great celebration to be had on the site, not in a third party country". "Just asking!" he tweeted on Monday morning.

Likewise, Beau Phillips, a former Republican strategist, said Trump achieved more than his predecessors.

At a campaign-style rally in MI on Saturday, Trump told the audience that he expects to meet Kim in the next three or four weeks.

Preparations for a Trump-Kim summit have gathered further momentum since Friday's summit, which saw North and South Korea promise to pursue the complete denuclearization of the peninsula and a permanent peace.

Trump loved the images from the inter-Korean summit and the fact the entire meeting was televised, those sources said.

The progress may be less to do with Trump's bark and more to do with his bite, according to Lee.

He added that "when you've seen Rambo I, II and III, by the time Rambo IV comes around you have a pretty good idea how it's not going to end".

U.S. President Donald Trump complimented Kim Jong-un this week following the Inter-Korea meeting, but he appears to remain wary of dealing with North Korea.

Perhaps in response to these fears, the leaders of USA -allied Japan and South Korea have sought to forge closer ties with the unpredictable Trump, and have also massaged his ego by crediting him for easing tensions with North Korea.

A meeting between Trump and Kim is now being planned, although the US President has said he is wary about North Korea's approach.

At the news conference, Trump reiterated a previous pledge to walk away from the summit with Kim if talks do not go well.

"Patrick Cronin, an Asia-Pacific security analyst at the Center for a New American Security, said the demilitarized zone makes sense in part because that area just staged a successful inter-Korea summit and because Kim is said not to want to travel too far from home". I will say this: If it's not a success. "Don't overthink the substance".

He also said he thinks the summit is "going to happen" as both sides want it and he thinks it's going to be a success.
