Facebook separately announced Tuesday that its popular Messenger app would soon be able to translate missives in real time, deploying artificial intelligence to enable text conversations between people using different languages.

"For example, if one of your friends is testifying before Congress", said Zuckerberg, showing an example of how the Watch Party video feature would work, using footage of his recent appearance before Congress. We will be sure to cover Zuckerberg's second keynote address again tomorrow on the last day of the conference. Facebook executives - including Zuckerberg - recently weathered hours-long testimony to the United States Congress and British Parliament, along with worldwide media pressure over its data privacy practices.

Zuckerberg also said on Tuesday that Facebook was building a new privacy control called "clear history" to allow users to delete browsing history, similar to the option of clearing cookies in a browser.

After the Cambridge Analytica news broke, Facebook froze all new app approvals while it reviewed its system, audited existing apps, and dealt with a public relations crisis.

While Zuckerberg repeatedly appealed to developers to join Facebook's cause to connect the world, he had one other announcement to win over the crowd: Everyone at the conference is receiving a free Oculus Go.

United Kingdom lawmakers have threatened to have Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg dragged kicking and screaming to Parliament if he doesn't attend a hearing about the social media giant's dodgy practices in the next month.

Mr Zuckerberg told software developers at Facebook's annual F8 conference that a dating service would be a natural fit for a company that specialises in connecting people online. A, well, dating app for Facebook. "I can't believe we're only four months in", said Zuckerberg, who was no doubt referring in part to the firestorm since Facebook suspended Cambridge Analytica for exploiting user data.

Clearly, Facebook can't stop investing in new tools to attract more users and keep them glued to its service.

"We will start with information... web sites and applications that make use of advertising and Analytics tools Facebook. I feel like he struck the right balance between being apologetic, without apologizing, and also refocusing attention on what matters to Facebook, which is building community and moving forward as a business", said Debra Aho Williamson, an analyst with eMarketer.

"We're flattered that Facebook is coming into our space - and sees the global opportunity that we do", Match CEO Mandy Ginsberg said in an e-mailed statement.

Facebook wants to help you get laid, personal privacy be damned. Once created, you can meet with friends in VR to watch 360-degree videos, play games and take virtual selfies. "They can laugh together, cry together in the channel ... but let's not do that anytime soon".
