Severe weather threatens central United States; major warmup coming to East

We are monitoring the risk for severe weather starting this evening and lasting through Thursday evening where all modes of severe weather are possible.

Meanwhile, confidence is increasing for severe weather across most of eastern Kansas, including the KVOE listening area, for Wednesday.

A tornado watch has been issued until late Tuesday night for 40 counties in central Kansas, including portions of the Wichita metropolitan area.

There is now an enhanced risk of severe weather for Wednesday.

Strong thunderstorms may try forming late tomorrow afternoon or evening, posing a threat for very large hail, strong winds, and perhaps a tornado. Often during monsoon season we'll see storms roll down the mountains between 1 to 4pm but for the stronger, severe storms that typically generate a warning, the most common occurrence is 5 to 6pm after more heat has been built into the day. The precise magnitude and location of the most-severe weather remains questionable due to the evolution of storms overnight.

Primary threats include a few tornadoes likely with a couple intense tornadoes possible. Temperatures are on the rise already on Sunday morning for the entire Northern Plains, with temperatures nearing 80 degrees or higher all the way to North Dakota.

Tuesday the warmth finally moves into the Northeast.

Tomorrow while a leftover shower/storm is possible, do think the morning will be dry with redevelopment of storms in the afternoon as highs will reach the low-mid 80s. This will be the start of several warm days for the Northeast, with plenty of sunshine. This has the potential to be the warmest air mass this region has seen since September of previous year.
