Apple to use triple camera setup with its third-gen iPhones

Huawei P20 Pro review

A research note from Yuanta Securities analyst Jeff Pu suggests that Apple could include triple-lens rear camera sensor setup in at least one iPhone set to launch in 2019.

Should Apple move in that direction, it would follow in the footsteps of the new Huawei P20 Pro, which was the first mainstream smartphone to boast three rear-facing cameras.

Bill Yu, general manager Middle East Multiple Country, Huawei, said, "Huawei P Series has always been a pioneer of smartphone photography and the Huawei P20 Pro is once again leading the way with the revolutionary Leica triple camera".

It seems unlikely that Apple will make any significant changes to the rear camera setup on this year's follow-up to the iPhone X, but evidence seems to be pointing to a major upgrade in 2019. The smartphone borrowed a couple of design cues from the iPhone X like its notch and placing the cameras vertically on the back. A new rumor claims that Apple is planning to bring the same camera technology to its future iPhones.

An addition of a third lens would enable 3x optical zoom on an iPhone for the first time ever, allowing users to magnify an image in the viewfinder by up to 3x without any blurry reduction. Another mindboggling feature of this camera setup is a maximum ISO of 102,400.

According to previous reports and information, Apple to unveil the new range of iPhones in the coming September month before the end of this year.

Macotakara also adds that 2018 iPhone will run on iOS 12 which will come with horizontal Face ID unlock, which has been missing in the current models.
