Donald Trump threatens to revoke reporters' credentials for writing negative, 'fake' news

Ms Sanders remains journalists’ primary hope for explanations of Donald Trump’s bizarre tweets

US President Donald Trump threatened news networks with having their credentials revoked on Wednesday morning, as he took to Twitter to complain about negative coverage of his administration.

During Wednesday morning's Fox & Friends, the talk show cited a report from conservative media watchdog group Media Research Center that claimed that 90 percent of the reporting about Trump, on network news, portrays the 45th president negatively, and focused primarily on scandals and controversies, such as the Russian Federation investigation and a $130,000 payout to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

President Trump seemed optimistic about his upcoming meeting with Kim Jong Un, saying "both sides" are looking for a deal.

Trump's earlier tweet predictably drew the derision of the news media. "Until we see that happen, we're going to continue to put maximum pressure and enormous sanctions on them". During that campaign, Trump took away press credentials from a few outlets that published uncomplimentary coverage.

The White House Correspondents Association took a strong exception to his remarks, which, it said would be an assault on the First Amendment of the American Constitution - that ensures freedom of speech or of the press.

The Trump White House's relationship with the press returned to the spotlight on April 28 when comedian Michelle Wolf mocked Sanders during her set.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders bristled, when asked to square her insistence Trump's White House advocates for the press, with Trump's tweet, by a reporter who said "those two do not go together".

In September of 2017, in a post called the "Liberal Media's Summer of Pummeling Trump", it found again that 91 percent of Trump coverage was in a negative light.

He routinely attacks the news media as "dishonest" and brands critical media outlets and reports as "fake news". In June, July and August, broadcast evening news coverage of Trump was 91 percent negative - worse than the astounding 89 percent negative spin we calculated during the first three months of the administration, usually a traditional honeymoon period for new presidents.
